Report on Supreme Court ruling on potential medical marijuana

I, like many, find this swapping of ideological positions by the Supreme Court members to be very strange. Possibly, it's a recognition by the Court of its politicization and an attempt by the Court to undo the perceived intransigence of it's individual members by taking the reverse positions that the public and politicians have come to expect. The effect of this is permit the individual members, as well as the entire Court, to reasonably deflect future accusations of their political ideology coming ahead of legal or judicial issues.

Perhaps more importantly, this is now an extremely useful tool in a debate regarding accusations of attempts at "stacking" the courts. Mark my words, this position will be referred to many, many times in the future. They will say that any "supposed" attempts would be useless to pursue because "there is no way to predict how they'll vote". Therefore the accusations are unjustified because there is no point in it for the politicians themselves.

Anyhow, bottom line is they will have undone, in the minds of many I'm sure, attempts by others to say (and correctly so)that they are overly political, as well as having taken the safest political position---the status quo.

Amnesty official says US running "archipelago" of prisoners around the world

Amnesty official says US running ' archipelago' of prisoners around the world

By Kuna

WASHINGTON, June 5 (KUNA) -- A top Amnesty official said on Sunday he was not sure about whether to approve the credibility of part of the recently made annual report of Amnesty that the US military is running a 'gulag' in Guantanamo, but charged that the United States is running an 'archipelago' of prisoners around the world.

Head of the Amnesty International-USA, William Schulz, made the remarks to FOX news television in an interview a week after Amnesty harshly criticized the US treatment of prisoners in Gauantanmo saying that Guantanamo has 'become the gulag of our times', a charge that drew growing anger among top US Administration officials as untrue and 'obsured'.

When asked whether he approved the finding of the Amnesty report on treatment of prisoners in Guntanamo, Cuba, Schulz said 'It would be fascinating to find out. I have no idea'.

'We don't know for sure what all is happening at Guantanamo and our whole point is that the United States ought to allow independent human rights organizations to investigate,' he said.

The United States has come under increasing criticism over report of mistreatment of prisoners in Guantanamo, the latest of Which the desecration of the holy book of Quran.

But Schulz said despite the fact that the report would need further verification, the United States maintained an archipelago of prisoners around the world.

'The United States is maintaining an archipelago of prisons around the world, many of them secret prisons into which people are being literally disappeared and in some cases, at least, we know that they are being mistreated, abused, tortured and even killed,' he said.

Schulz also charged that the United States is holding the prisoners in 'indefinite incommunicado detention without access to lawyers'. (end) sa."

'Team Jesus Christ'

It's things like this that make a person wonder why the "Doomsday Clock" has disappeared from the public eye in recent years. After all, it is more relevant than it has ever been. The communists were at least rational. Religious zealots operate on "faith";meaning they need no proof of anything to start a war. As such, there is nothing more dangerous than having religious zealots with their finger on the nuclear button. The murderous actions of Osama bin Laden are proof of the extent zealots will go too. Why on earth would anyone tolerate those type of people in the White House.

'Team Jesus Christ'

THE REPORTS OF the religious climate at the Air Force Academy are unsettling: A chaplain instructs cadets to try to convert classmates by warning that they 'will burn in the fires of hell' if they do not accept Christ. During basic training, freshman cadets who decline to attend after-dinner chapel are marched back to their dormitories in 'heathen flights' organized by upperclassmen. A Jewish student is taunted as a Christ killer and told that the Holocaust was the just punishment for that offense. The academy's head football coach posts a banner in the locker room that proclaims, 'I am a Christian first and last. . . . I am a member of Team Jesus Christ.'"

War Criminals Occupy Whitehouse. Removal Justified By International Law.

Let's consider an item from the news of about two weeks ago:

By Robert Shetterly

06/02/05 'Bangor Daily News' - - A British citizen leaked a memo to London's Sunday Times. The memo was of the written account of a meeting that a man named Richard Dearlove had with the Bush administration in July 2002. Dearlove was the head of the England's MI-6, the equivalent of the CIA. On July 23, 2002, Dearlove briefed Tony Blair about the meeting. He said that Bush was determined to attack Iraq. He said that Bush knew that U.S. intelligence had no evidence of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq and no links to foreign terrorists, that there was no imminent danger to the U.S. from Iraq. But, since Bush was determined to go to war, 'Intelligence and facts are being fixed around the policy.' 'Fixed' means faked, manufactured, conjured, hyped - the product of whole cloth fabrication."

See No Evil?

This story is extremely disturbing. I also believe it can be used as a indicator about where the current "state of the union" re: might be.

Gary Williams

The Department of Homeland Security does not list right-wing domestic terrorists and terrorist groups on a document that appears to be an internal list of threats to the nation's security...[but it does]... list left-wing domestic groups, such as the Animal Liberation Front (ALF) and the Earth Liberation Front (ELF), as terrorist threats, but it does not mention anti-government groups, white supremacists and other radical right-wing movements, which have staged numerous terrorist attacks that have killed scores of Americans.
