FBI Accused of Concealing Link to Mercenary Jailer in Afghanistan

FBI Accused of Concealing Link to Mercenary Jailer in Afghanistan: "FBI Accused of Concealing Link to Mercenary Jailer in Afghanistan by Declan Walsh and Kitty Logan in Kabul An American mercenary accused of kidnapping and torturing terror suspects in Afghanistan told a court in Kabul yesterday that the FBI was withholding hundreds of papers, photographs and videotapes showing that he was employed by the agency, as well as by the CIA and the US military. The American government denies all links with the former special forces soldier, Jonathan 'Jack' Idema, a convicted fraudster, but has agreed to return the controversial documents, the court hearing was told. The case against Mr Idema was adjourned for a week to allow him to examine the documents and prove his alleged links with the US government. Mr Idema, a 48-year-old former green beret, and his fellow Americans, Edward Caraballo and Brett Bennett, were arrested last month after police found a makeshift jail inside their Kabul house. Detainees claimed they had been held for days, doused in scalding water or hung from the ceiling by their feet. The three men were charged with hostage-taking, torturing eight people and entering Afghanistan illegally."

Bush Supporters Attack Hometown Newspapers Staff

Crawford Paper Threatened The Crawford (TX) paper that opined against President Bush recently has been subjected to threats -- of commercial harm and physical violence. Iconoclast publisher explains: "We have been told by several avid Bush supporters that the days when newspapers publish editorials without personal repercussions are over... When Bush was endorsed four years ago, the Gore supporters did not respond with threats, nor did Democrats when we endorsed Reagan twice. Republicans did not threaten us personally or our business when we endorsed Carter and Clinton for their first terms... The new mode of operation, I am told, is that when a newspaper prints an editorial of which some sectors might disagree, the focus is now upon how to run the newspaper out of business

History Repeating Itself?

An interesting lttle observation I thought I should share with y'all: Nazis in our midst: 1933, Hilter burns down the Reichstag and blames it on terrorists. Over the next decade, slowly, the German people are solidified into a mass of hatred and outrage. Bush, after "terrorists" attack the WTC, and with little reverence for those who died, stands on a pile of debris and human ash, grabs a megaphone and proceeds to spew hatred and revenge and death. History will look back on that speech as truly chilling. Schwarzenegger's father was a Nazi. The Bush family made part of its enormous fortune supplying Hitler with supplies. Bush's GREAT-grandfather made a small fortune selling bullets to both sides of WWI. Oh no. Never kid yourself. Regardless of the flag-waving and baby kissing, the Bush Family is a group of self-centered manipulators whose first and last concern is for themselves. Of course this includes those who can enable them in their pursuit of power and wealth, first and foremost being the citizens whom they need to lie to in order to get elected to the positions that opens the Horn of Plenty.....the wallets of the poor and middle class.

AlterNet: Election 2004: By Their Fruits Ye Shall Know Them

"By Their Fruits Ye Shall Know Them By Mark Crispin Miller, AlterNet. Posted August 31, 2004. A powerful excerpt from Miller's book, 'Cruel and Unusual,' arguing that Bush is inching us towards a theocratic Whitehouse""

BUSH MISLEADS ON GLOBAL WARMING

=============================== THE DAILY MIS-LEAD =============================== BUSH MISLEADS ON GLOBAL WARMING Campaigning for the presidency in 2000, George W. Bush promised to place mandatory caps on carbon dioxide emissions to control global warming. After he assumed office - in what was widely seen as payback for the energy industry that helped finance his campaign - Bush quickly reneged on his pledge. Bush claimed such regulations were inappropriate because there was no clear scientific link between human activity and global warming. But last week, a report signed by Bush's Secretary of Commerce Don Evans and Secretary of Energy Spencer Abraham, concluded, "rising temperatures in North America are due in part to human activity." The report found that global warming was already causing draught, damaging farms and changing migration patterns. Nevertheless, the Bush administration is still content to do nothing. John H. Marburger, the president's top science adviser, said the report has "no implications for policy." Bush himself denies that there has been any change in the administration's position. Asked by the New York Times to explain the switch, Bush replied "Ah, did we?...I don't think so."
