Four in 9/11 Plot Are Called Tied to Qaeda in '00

More information that strongly indicates that the administration was looking to allow an "incident" to take place on American soil so they would have an excuse to proceed with the plans as they are outlined in their PNAC document.

Be clear! I do not for a minute suggest that the administration had any idea of the magnitude or "success" of the attack that eventually did take place, or that they would have let it happen had they known. I do not believe that. But up until that point, the vast majority of attacks that had taken place, did so with relatively minor loss of life. Having predicted this minor level of destruction, I do believe this administration would have let something proceed. They have clearly demonstrated a belief that the "Project For The New American Century" is a project well worth a few American citizens lives in order to implement; a project which, to their minds, is in America's long-term best interest.

WASHINGTON, Aug. 8 - More than a year before the Sept. 11 attacks, a small, highly classified military intelligence unit identified Mohammed Atta and three other future hijackers as likely members of a cell of Al Qaeda operating in the United States, according to a former defense intelligence official and a Republican member of Congress."

And even if Bush and his minipulators didn't know in advance, they were certainly delighted by the opportunities that 9/11 presented them. It gave them a windfall of excuses to remove more of our freedoms and expand their financial empires at the expense of thousands of American lives and hundreds of thousands of Iraqi lives.

All too true, and yet so painfully obvious that I'm astounded at the number of people who refuse to give up on their vision of Bush as hero/protector. He's getting them killed in Iraq while AQ and other now newly pissed-off Arab groups sit and plot their next move. This entire WOT should have been a more low key intelligence/police kind of effort rather than this big, expensive and brutal military one. It seemed to work quite well for the Brits when they were attacked back home, and as much as Blair tries to deny that it had anything to do with the Iraqi occupation, the wives and relatives of the attackers have as much as flatly stated that this is what they were mad about.
