Veteran Doesn't Want Rice, Bush Allowed in Canada
by Grant Fraser

Kamloops, B.C. -- A Kamloops Vietnam war veteran says neither U.S. Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice nor President George W. Bush should be allowed into Canada while the Iraq war continues and that he is mounting a public campaign to convince the Canadian government to withdraw the welcome mat for Rice's proposed visit in April. John McNamer, 57, says he will begin the campaign Sunday (March 13), with large banners displayed on the lawn in front of the Kamloops Courthouse from 1-3 p.m. that read '`No' to Rice/Bush'; 'Iraq War Illegal' and 'Canada is a Peacekeeper.' He said there will be a petition to Prime Minister Paul Martin available to sign and that supporters will also be asked to e-mail or write Martin asking that Bush and Rice not be invited onto Canadian soil while American troops continue to occupy Iraq. As well, supporters will be encouraged to send similar messages to the White House. There are also plans to raise the profile of the public demonstration by moving it to the Peace Arch Crossing of the Canada-U.S. border near Vancouver prior to Rice's proposed trip to Canada. Concerned citizens wishing to act in a peaceful way are welcome to join the demonstrations, he said.

The End of Reason

I find the timing of this story, concurrent with the passing of Teri Schiavo, to be remarkable. What does this story have to do with her?

Everything.......

The End of Reason

By David Morris, AlterNet. Posted March 31, 2005.

Organized religion elevates superstition to an entirely new level, so let's call its institutions by their proper name: superstition-based institutions.

For Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, until 2003 the deputy head of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, the Vatican's most powerful office, seeing The DaVinci Code in a Vatican bookstore was the last straw. In early March he lashed out at Catholic bookstores for carrying the book, and directed Catholics not to read it. Why? 'There is a very real risk that many people who read it will believe that the fables it contains are true.'

Fables?

Dan Brown's phenomenal bestseller suggests that Jesus was an immensely popular and prophetic leader who married one of his closest associates and had a family. Archbishop Bertone and the Church maintain that Jesus was at the same time a man, the son of God, and God himself, that a virgin woman gave birth to him and remained a virgin, that a few days after he was killed he came back to life and shortly thereafter was taken up to heaven to spend an eternity directing the destinies of billions of people."

It seems that a few days ago a group known as the American Center For Voting Rights was on Capitol Hill giving testimony at the Committee For Election Reform. Last night the RNC send me a notice of their actions and a link to their site. The email explained how this independent, apolitical group has found all kinds of wrongdoing on the part of the Dems. OK I figure. Surely there was, if not at the top, then certainly by some overzealous volunteer out to sign up new voters. But there must be something about the RNC as well...the ACVR being a political, independent , fair and all, right? Well, you know how that story goes. Not a word about anything done by any Republican, anywhere. Amazing! Yet they make huge criminal hay out of Democrats with bumper-stickers (yes!)people being within the 100 foot no-solicitation zone around polling sites. Apparently every and all Republicans... across the country... observed this rule! Astounding! But something....I'm not sure what really (ahem), but something was telling me that this group might not be as apolitical as they claim. So I went looking for more info on them.

It seems they were formed last week , just in time to give testimony *as an expert organization* at the hearings. According to the Bradblog, their company headquarters is a P.O.Box, and whatever names they do admit to are Republican operatives of one form or another. IOW, this groups testimony last week as being independent and unbiased is about as reliable as Jeff Guckert's journalism bona fide's. And like Guckert, I think it might be very revealing to find out how this "expert" company found it's way to testify in front of a high profile committee. Like Guckerts press-pass, who and how was their names were entered onto the witness list would be very revealing. We might finally learn who the Minister Of Propaganda really is.

And for a really good knee-slapper, you should check out "Exhibit A" at the "Exhibits" link. http://www.ac4vr.com/news/Exhibits.pdf .

The executive summary gives 6 key findings which, if you read closely and don't let the numbers confuse you( which is of course precisely what is intended)says absolutely nothing.

Well Ok. Actually it does say, among other things, that ACT has been committing the crime of trying to register voters at the very same time as the pool of eligible voters in the Missouri population has been going down. Horrors! And why is this important? who knows? You'd think they'd be happy about that. But regardless, out of this dwindling population, some 2000 registered voters (doesn't say registered with whom) in St. Louis are felons. This apparently makes "the potential for fraud a legitimate concern". Indeed it should and is. But it still doesn't say *who* they are voting for, or *if* they even intend to vote. Apparently just the fact that *they're out there!* is somehow the fault of the DNC.

But this one is the best. After telling us about all this potential for felons to vote,( setting the stage no doubt), they go on to say that the Missouri Department of Corrections requested 16,000 voter registration cards. I guess what they hope we will think, given this tidbit of info, is that the guards are going from cell to cell trying to register then persuade murderers and the like to vote for the Democrats. WTF? Yeah, this kind of prisoner/guard relationship is something you see every day in prisons. I think a more likely reason for the request might be to get the forms and make them accessible to employees of the Prison biz. Kind of a "favor" , even though its safe to assume that those who tend to gravitate towards uniforms also tend to vote Republican. "Little Eichmann's" in the truest sense.

What's Going On?

Democratic societies have a hard time dealing with extremists in their midst. The desire to show respect for other people's beliefs all too easily turns into denial: nobody wants to talk about the threat posed by those whose beliefs include contempt for democracy itself."

The Tribulations Of The Terri(y)'s

Sinced everyone and their dog seems to feel a need to gety involved in this unfortunate event, I suppose I give my two cents.

I feel it extremely ironic that the Pro-Life, Randall Terry kooks are once again displaying the extreme hypocrisy that has come to be the hallmark of the religious right. How? Well, this time we hear them tugging at the heartstrings of Americans by giving us graphic details, now exposed as lies by the nursing staff as well as the Schindlers themselves, that the shell that was once the woman named Terri Schiavo is sitting on her bed trying to say that she wants to live through lips so dry that they are cracked and bleeding. This has been exposed as a lie, but regardless, even if there was a person inside the body, a person that was indeed suffering, it is the previous actions of the Right-to-Lifers who used similar tactics to make it impossible for anyone who wants to have their life ended in a dignified, peaceful, pain-free manner. It is these very folks who badgered politicians and law-enforcement officials to throw anyone in prison who dared to assist someone to take their own life in a quick and painless manner. They are now using the outcome of their very own own actions as an excuse to discontinue the only option that is left open to those who want to do the right thing.
In short, they themselves are responsible for any pain and suffering that Terri *may* be undergoing.

New Details on F.B.I. Aid for Saudis After 9/11

New Details on F.B.I. Aid for Saudis After 9/11
By ERIC LICHTBLAU

Published: March 27, 2005

WASHINGTON, March 26 - The episode has been retold so many times in the last three and a half years that it has become the stuff of political legend: in the frenzied days after Sept. 11, 2001, when some flights were still grounded, dozens of well-connected Saudis, including relatives of Osama bin Laden, managed to leave the United States on specially chartered flights.

Now, newly released government records show previously undisclosed flights from Las Vegas and elsewhere and point to a more active role by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in aiding some of the Saudis in their departure."

Panel Ignored Evidence on Detainee (washingtonpost.com)

I believe what we are seeing now is a military tribunal at Gitmo that is accutely aware of the potential for their names and careers to be sewered by involvement in the growing controversy surrounding this administrations use of torture. For this reason, they are desperate to find guilt, even where none exists, so as to give a more favorable background against which history can view their actions once this administration is exposed for the tyranny it is.

U.S. Military Intelligence, German Authorities Found No Ties to Terrorists

By Carol D. Leonnig
Washington Post Staff Writer

A military tribunal determined last fall that Murat Kurnaz, a German national seized in Pakistan in 2001, was a member of al Qaeda and an enemy combatant whom the government could detain indefinitely at the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

The three military officers on the panel, whose identities are kept secret, said in papers filed in federal court that they reached their conclusion based largely on classified evidence that was too sensitive to release to the public. Murat Kurnaz, 23, has been held at Guantanamo Bay since at least January 2002. (Hurriyet Via AP)

In fact, that evidence, recently declassified and obtained by The Washington Post, shows that U.S. military intelligence and German law enforcement authorities had largely concluded there was no information that linked Kurnaz to al Qaeda, any other terrorist organization or terrorist activities."
