DEA Seeks Private Guards To Ship Pot

It's hard for me to say just exactly what I think of this idea. From a law-enforcement angle it's arguably one of the stupidest goddamn things I've ever heard of in my life, but then thats what I live for..... OTOH, from an angle of putting the weed on the streets and back with the people who want it and pay for it because it's their right as human beings to smoke whatever the fuck they want to, even if it kills them, then this is probably a good thing.

DEA Seeks Private Guards To Protect Traveling Tonnage of Pot

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is recruiting private security forces to load, transport and unload "multi-ton" shipments of seized marijuana en route to destruction in Arizona. It's conducting what is known as a "sources sought" inquiry to determine the availability of commercial firms that can provide on-call deployments of armed contractors to protect these bulk transports of pot."

Letters alarm pot-seed buyers (Emery Update)

"'I feel like my rights as a Canadian are being violated. Who runs our country -- Canada or the U.S.?'"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And I've no doubt they are being violated. The problem is, why isn't the government saying something about this new assault on Canada soveriegnty? Or is the government and/or the RCMP involved in this Tandy-led attempt at Americanization? I don't know. It seems to me that our Liberal politicians at least are sufficiently enlightened enough to know that using a little Reefer hysteria to to tug at the heart-strings of Canadians isn't going to fly. So who would actually allow those Texas redneck creeps to put grubby little paws on our citizens? Who or what is behind these blatant violations using our own police forces? Is the government really letting the RCMP do this?
Look. We understand that many people in our society grow up feeling the need to be important,to be looked up to before they are able to function in a acceptably social manner. Fine. So we let them be police officers. Now they can drive fast and shoot guns while laying on the siren so everyone will be sure to see.....legally. Everybodies happy. But hey...... when they start turning on our own citizens, then they've taken our good will, not to mention the public's trust, and turned it into betrayal.
Whoever is behind the interception of mail, the recording of names, and now the attempted sting of Canadian citizens, all because an American troglodyte doesn't think other Americans should be allowed to move out of their caves, is nothing short of a goddamn traitor to the country. Certainly, if not brought up on charges themselves, they most definitely need to lose their job. And it would probably be a good idea to look into their past and see what this person (or persons) has been up to in the recent past because anyone who would do something this blatantly un-Canadian over pot seeds is cabable of doing far more damage. They would almost certainly go to much greater lengths towards violating the soverignty of Canada if, God forbid, they should deem something to be really offensive. And given the (ahem)gravity of the "Great Pot-Seed Caper", God only knows the lengths such a person might go to if they were, shall we say, "seriously disturbed"?
New Abuse Photos Could Spark Riots, US General Warns
More Evidence of War Crimes.
I keep telling you people who are sticking by Bush,"Get away from him!". You are going to get burned badly. Your children are going to be so embarrased by your beliefs now that they will have to lie to their friends about you. It's not a matter of if, it's when. Turn now while you still have a reasonable excuse.
Officer Says Military Blocked Sharing of Files on Terrorists
One more piece of a puzzle that is piece by piece, more clearly showing that the Bush administration knew of an attack and let it proceed so as to galvanize support for PNAC and the suspension of our own cvil liberties.
Officer Says Military Blocked Sharing of Files on Terrorists
By PHILIP SHENON
08/17/05 'New York Times' -- WASHINGTON, Aug. 16 - A military intelligence team repeatedly contacted the F.B.I. in 2000 to warn about the existence of an American-based terrorist cell that included the ringleader of the Sept. 11 attacks, according to a veteran Army intelligence officer who said he had now decided to risk his career by discussing the information publicly.
The officer, Lt. Col. Anthony Shaffer, said military lawyers later blocked the team from sharing any of its information with the bureau.
Colonel Shaffer said in an interview on Monday night that the small, highly classified intelligence program, known as Able Danger, had identified the terrorist ringleader, Mohamed Atta, and three other future hijackers by name by mid-2000, and tried to arrange a meeting that summer with agents of the Washington field office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation to share its information.
But he said military lawyers forced members of the intelligence program to cancel three scheduled meetings with the F.B.I. at the last minute, which left the bureau without information that Colonel Shaffer said might have led to Mr. Atta and the other terrorists while the Sept. 11 attacks were still being planned."
"This is barbarism" :Spine Broken By American Torturer
Just another day in the good ol' US of A.
What these fools don't realize is that the only thing that is covering up their crimes is the Bush administration. If they won't go when they lose a free and fair election, then they'll have to go by "other means"; ways that sounds more preferable to me the more I read about the crimes being committed by this gang of perverted thugs.
"Guantanamo Detainee Says Beating Injured Spine
By Carol D. Leonnig
Washington Post Staff Writer
08/13/05 'Washington Post' -- -- An Egyptian-born teacher imprisoned at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, for the past 3 1/2 years recently convinced the U.S. military that he is not an enemy combatant, but rather what he said he was: a pro-democracy English teacher swept up when the military seized fighters and suspected terrorists from the battlefields of Afghanistan.
In newly declassified records of statements to his attorney, Sami Al-Laithi said that as a result of his detention at the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay, he is now confined to a wheelchair with two broken vertebrae. He said military personnel and interrogators stomped on his back, dropped him on the floor and repeatedly forced his neck forward soon after his arrival at the prison.
Al Qaeda: Why Hand Them A Victory?
An article here sent to me by conservative blogger Sacto Dan.
The one overwhelming problem I have with it is that it continues to repeat the falsehood that the Spanish government was toppled out of fear of another Al Qaeda attack. Not only is this wrong, but it confers an image of power and effectiveness on a group that now has little power other than it's name and reputation. As such, by saying it was effective in toppling the Spanish government, it is being given a credibility that they do not rightly deserve, and credibility is the only thing they have left. It's this final attribute that needs to be undercut in order to deliver the coup de gras.
The danger of handing them this Spanish "victory" is that it is precisely this kind of credibility that will attract other young "jihadists" to fight under their banner, whereas if the truth of the situation was being circulated, it is much less likely.
And what that truth is, is that the government of the day, already suffering credibility problems of their own, proceeded to knowingly lie about the source of the attack, initially blaming it on their old nemesis, ETA. Unfortunately for them, the public found out that the government had learned almost immediately after the bombings had occured, that the attacks had in fact been carried out by Islamic jihadists. Yet they still decided to go ahead and lie about it to the public to score political points against their old enemy. In essence, they played "politics as usual" with a deadly serious situation. And to an already wary public, that was the final straw. As far as this government was concerned, "They're outta here", and out they went.
And so, not surprisingly as this is almost always the case, the truth is much less "glamorous" than the myth. The irony of it is that the US miltary and their right-wing pundits are the people who keep repeating this myth as a warning to others about how not to behave in the face of an attack. Naturally, bin Laden and Zawahiri are going to go along for the ride. Hell, they've been handed a victory that they never achieved yet one that will surely attract others to their side, seeing them as a more effective group than they actually have any right to take credit for.
In any case, the irony of the situation is incredible. I would be laughing if the consequences of all this weren't so tragic.
AL QAEDA'S WOES
by Amir Taheri
New York Post
August 11, 2005
August 11, 2005 -- 'OH, no! Not him again!" This is how several Arab friends reacted as we watched a re-run of Ayman al-Zawahiri's latest "message" on al-Jazeera the other day in a café in Edgware Road, London's Arab quarter.
A fugitive terrorist of Egyptian origin, al-Zawahiri is often identified as al Qaeda's chief theoretician and No. 2 to its paymaster, the Saudi-born Osama bin Laden. In his message he endorsed the 7/7 attacks in London and threatened more such operations against both Britain and the United States.
The message merits attention for a number of reasons. To begin with, al-Zawahiri shows that although al Qaeda — with its leaders dead, captured or hiding in caves in remote regions — no longer exists as an organization, the ideology (or brand name) it represents is still a threat not only to several Muslim countries but also to the major Western democracies.
What Now, Karl?
Rove and Ashcroft face new allegations in the Valerie Plame affair
by Murray Waas
August 13th, 2005 2:39 PM
Murray Waas will be writing more about the latest in the Plame affair at www.whateveralready.blogspot.com.
Justice Department officials made the crucial decision in late 2003 to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate the leak of the identity of undercover CIA officer Valerie Plame in large part because investigators had begun to specifically question the veracity of accounts provided to them by White House deputy chief of staff Karl Rove, according to senior law enforcement officials."
Is Bush Out of Control?
Buy beleaguered, overworked White House aides enough drinks and they tell a sordid tale of an administration under siege, beset by bitter staff infighting and led by a man whose mood swings suggest paranoia bordering on schizophrenia.
They describe a President whose public persona masks an angry, obscenity-spouting man who berates staff, unleashes tirades against those who disagree with him and ends meetings in the Oval Office with “get out of here!”
Cont...... In fact, George W. Bush’s mood swings have become so drastic that White House emails often contain “weather reports” to warn of the President’s demeanor. “Calm seas” means Bush is calm while “tornado alert” is a warning that he is pissed at the world.
Decreasing job approval ratings and increased criticism within his own party drives the President’s paranoia even higher. Bush, in a meeting with senior advisors, called Senator Majority Leader Bill Frist a “god-damned traitor” for opposing him on stem-cell research.
“There’s real concern in the West Wing that the President is losing it,” a high-level aide told me recently."
