U.S. senator revives 9/11 myth about Canada

Canada-U.S. relations are at a low ebb, with (Senator Conrad Burns) calling the border a gateway for criminals entering the U.S. and MSNBC host Tucker Carlson likening Canada to a 'retarded' family member that you patronize at family functions. WASHINGTON - Canadian Ambassador Frank McKenna demanded an apology and retraction from a United States senator who claimed yesterday that the terrorists who struck the U.S. on Sept. 11, 2001, entered the country from Canada. Montana Senator Conrad Burns, a Republican, made the charge during a news conference at which he said the "porous" stretch of border between Montana and Alberta is a prime route for drug runners and criminals travelling south from Calgary."

House of Death

December 9, 2005 Please Distribute Widely Dear Colleague, Bill Conroy’s tireless following of the ”House of Death” case — in which the Justice and Homeland Security departments are implicated in covering up mass murder committed with their knowledge in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico — continues. Today in the Narcosphere he posts the first part of a comprehensive timeline of the events and players of the case, condensing the many confusing elements of this story into a single narrative. “For those of you who have been following this story on Narco News over the past year and a half,” writes Conroy, “this narrative line is nothing new. Still, despite all the information now out there, the bloodbath in the House of Death remains in the shadows of a cover-up. And based on public documents, as many of you now know, that cover-up reaches all the way to the top of the Department of Justice. “But what has not been laid out to this point is the sequence of events, and the description of some of the key players, who acted out this tragic drug-war farce. Over the past several months, with the help of multiple sources and by piecing together information from a variety of documents, Narco News has created a diary, of sorts, that traces the events and background of the House of Death mass-murder case.” Read part one here: http://narcosphere.narconews.com/story/2005/12/8/202713/302 Also, Conroy’s posting “Unraveling the pretense of the Guatemalan ‘Narco-State’” continues to generate comments and updates in its comments thread. Read the latest on that story, from background on the genocidal crimes of the drug-trafficking Guatemalan military to a developing narco-corruption scandal that has stolen the spotlight and placed on the police, here: http://narcosphere.narconews.com/story/2005/11/22/211746/45

Qaeda-Iraq Link U.S. Cited Is Tied to Coercion Claim - New York Times

And this is probably why Cheney is so adamant about wanting to be able to use torture. He knows the war is based on falsehoods, with many of them extracted under torture. Now that it's falling apart, the only way he can obtain more "confessions" ,get more diabolical plans that will (hopefully) make him look like he was right to go to war, is by torturing more of these "plots" out of more people. I'm reminded of how the Church tortured confessions out of people often "particular people who held property that a local Duke or cleric wanted. They would torture until they got the right confession neccessary to expropriate the property they needed but couldn't get through any other legal means. And now it's the same old story of rulers exercising power to get what they want. And it most certainly is not the reasons that the America and it's military have sworn to fight for. Indeed it is the complete opposite. To join this army....under this man....is to betray America. And any military man who knows this --- who knows Bush lied and yet still signs up for this war, well.....they have no respect, and they should not be accorded any whatsoever. None. Qaeda-Iraq Link U.S. Cited Is Tied to Coercion Claim - New York Times By DOUGLAS JEHL Published: December 9, 2005 WASHINGTON, Dec. 8 - The Bush administration based a crucial prewar assertion about ties between Iraq and Al Qaeda on detailed statements made by a prisoner while in Egyptian custody who later said he had fabricated them to escape harsh treatment, according to current and former government officials"

Decision on Bush Torture Charges Reserved

Decision on Bush Torture Charges Reserved _________________________________________________________________________________________ November 29, 2005 After a full day's hearing on November 25th 2005 Mme. Justice Deborah Satanove of the British Columbia Supreme Court reserved judgment on another government bid to stop Canadian proceedings against George W. Bush for torture. Torture charges laid against Bush on November 30th 2004 by LAW were dismissed by a provincial court judge who ruled that Bush as U.S. President, was immune from prosecution under the criminal laws of Canada and the charges were a nullity. The Attorney General of Canada had not yet consented to prosecution when the charges were dismissed as a nullity on December 6th 2004. Lawyers Against the War--LAW appealed that decision on the ground that in Canada, sitting heads of state are not absolutely immune from prosecution for torture. On November 25th 2005, the Attorney General of British Columbia made an application to have LAW’s appeal dismissed on two grounds: the B.C. courts do not have jurisdiction to hear the case and the Attorney General of Canada has not yet consented to the prosecution. The Crown says the Attorney General of Canada must consent to the prosecution within 8 days of the charges being laid: LAW says the Attorney General’s consent must be within 8 days of the process hearing and after a proper review of the evidence. The Crown also asserts that the charges ought to have been laid in Ontario: LAW says the charges can be laid anywhere in Canada. LAW says that the court must decide whether, within all the circumstances, Mr. Bush is immune under Canadian law. LAW also says that the Attorney General of Canada cannot consent to the prosecution unless and until the provincial court decision is set aside. LAW questions what reason there could be in law for either the Provincial Crown or the Attorney General of Canada to refuse to pursue charges in a case where the evidence of torture, committed against non-Americans and outside U.S. territory, is overwhelming; where the alleged offender is attempting to legalize torture and where the laws of Canada provide jurisdiction to prosecute. LAW says the purpose of Canada’s torture laws is to eradicate all torture irrespective of where it occurs, the office of the alleged offender(s) and/or the nationality of the victim(s). No date was set for the decision. Background: On November 30th 2004 LAW co-chair filed an information in the Provincial Court of B.C. charging George Walker Bush, as President of the United States and Commander in Chief of the U.S. Armed Forces with 7 counts of aiding, abetting and counseling torture at Abu Ghraib and Guantánamo Bay prisons. The charges are based on overwhelming and horrific evidence of torture resulting in injury and death and were laid under Criminal Code provisions enacted when Canada ratified the UN Convention against Torture. After an information is filed by a private person, the court must conduct a process hearing to determine if there is enough evidence to support the charges and the Attorney General of Canada is entitled to attend this hearing. The Criminal Code imposes on the Attorney General of Canada the responsibility to oversee torture prosecutions of non-citizens which can continue to the trial stage only with his consent. On December 6th 2004, before a process hearing was held to review the evidence and before the Attorney General of Canada had consented, a provincial court judge dismissed the information as a nullity on the basis that George W. Bush, as President of the United States is immune from prosecution for torture under the criminal laws of Canada. LAW wants the court to hear the central issue in the appeal; whether, under Canadian law, George W. Bush is immune from prosecution for the torture alleged because he is President of the U.S., and if so the extent and effect of such immunity. No Canadian court has ever had the opportunity of properly adjudicating these issues, critical to the enforcement of the right to freedom from torture, as well as to the enforcement of laws prohibiting war crimes and crimes against humanity. LAW is an international group of jurists and others based in Canada with members in 14 countries. Vukovar war criminal major general Stojanovski chief of staff of Macedonian Army

Vukovar war criminal major general Stojanovski chief of staff of Macedonian Army Major general Miroslav Stojanovski was one of the serb officers leading the agression on Croatia and Vukovar back in 1991. He is directly responsible for the lifes of 10 and more civilians, and he was leading the "cleaning" with his speccial unit in Vukovar for Serrb agressors. Now he is under the investigation in Croatia for war crimes in Vukovar in 1991. The ICTY and Carla del Ponte shows its hipocricy once again by protecting souch war criminals. And they had intelligence informations about Stojanovski two years ago. They did nothing. Political Tribunal? Kangaroo Court? Secret relationship between Croatia's president Mesic and Macedonia's general Stojanovski

Secret relationship between Croatia's president Mesic and Macedonia's general Stojanovski At the end of 1998. there was a secret meeting held, on a joint initiative of the new Macedonian Government (VMRO-DPMNE) and its president Ljubco Georgievski and Croatian side, and secret working gropu „Velebit“ was founded. The main goal of this secret conspirative group was to arm Macedonian Army and Police, and to provide economic and financial logistics to new Macedonian Government. Later during 2002. and 2003. these negotiations were secretlly continued when high military delegation visited Zagreb at that period. In these secret missions to Zagreb Miroslav Stojanovski was present as one of Macedonia's representatives. Ohrid Document The existance of souch working gruop „Velebit“ totally out of the frame of official croatian policy, is declarated in a secret Ohrid document, signed in Ohrid On 29. of November 1998., titled as „The Priorities of Velebit Zagreb colaboration with Velebit Skopje and Veleco Skopje“. At the same period the high intelligence delegation from Croatia visited Macedonia, both with the representatives for economic-financial colaboration with Macedonian Government. During that visit the head of croatian intelligence delegation T.B. handed to Ljube Boskovsi, who later became Interior Minister ina Macedonia 200 000 german marks (100 000 Euro). For that money there was never official document signed or registered, and some wittnesses later claimed that Boskovski never gave that money either to VMRO or to the Government. At that time Boskovski was responsible for organization of financial and teshnical logistics, at his house in Croatia, Bale (Istria) where was the headquarters of all lo gistics for macedonian police and army forces. Founding of a joint company „Veleco Skopje“ During that visit of high croatian delegation to Macedonia, there was a document signed at Ohrid on founding joint macedonian croatian company „Veleco Skopje“ with its headquarters in Skopje. Stevèo Koèevski (close friend and assotiate to Ljube Boskovski) was named as director general of that company and Ljube Boskovski (minister of interior of Macedonia) was named as commercial director of company. This document was signed by the representative from Croatia T.B., Stevèo Koèevski and Ljube Boskovski. Prior to the founding of this company there was a secret Memorandum signed at Ohrid which was signed by the authorisation of the Macedonian primeminister Ljubco Georgievski, and in that document they set up priorities for „Velebit“ group as it was ordered by Georgievski. In that document T.B. proposed to Georgievski founding of a joint croatian macedonian bank in Skopje, and the next meeting was to be held on 5th of December of 1998. Members of „Velebit“ group „Veleco Skopje“ company (accordin to the documents) organized for Macedonian Government meetengs with respresentatives of important multinational corporations, souch as Honda, Coca-Cola, Lewenbrau, and others in Zagreb on the 10th of December of 1998., and on that meeting there was T.B present and also Davor Lucu (from Bale), Matijaž Božiè (from Bale). Lucu and Božiè also held several meetings on behalf of Macedonian Government with the representatives of ENRON and BECHTEL in Zagreb, and in that contacts Lucu and Božiè asked for huge provisions on contracts with Macedonia. Same team negotiated in zagreb for sale of macedonian telecommunication company and other important companies from Macedonia. T.B organized a „International Conference for investment, international collaboration and foreign investments in Macedonia“, in Ohrid, Hotel Metropol, from 1st to 7th February of 1999. All relations of this group and Macedonian Government was held thru assotiation „Velebit Ohrid“, Jane Sandanski Street 59, whose coordinator was Stevco Kocevski. One of the main priorities was to elaborate the Programm of free costums zones, what was financed secretly by Croatian Government. High representative of Croatian Interior Ministry on the direct line with Macedonians The main intelligence conection between Croatia and Macedonia was croatian macedonian, imployed in Ministry of Interior of Croatia O.B, who often replaced T.B on the meetings of the „Velebit“ group. He was also the main connection between Croatian and Macedonian Government in secret trade of arms and weapons. That person was later very close to primeminister Racan and president Mesic, and T.B and O.B. later visited Israel with the credentials given by stipe Mesic. If one remembers well, at that period Mesic offered to Macedonia peace mediation with Albanians and he offered him and „his people“ to negotiate between Macedonians and Albanians. These pople were T.B. and O.B. Racan as the primeminister covered secret operation „Velebit“ Croatian Government new for all relations with Macedonia during operation „Velebit“, as it was confirmed by the high source in Government who often talked to Racan to investigate these intelligence operations. Racan didn't approve that investigation and the high sponzorship on that project was taken by president Stipe Mesic. Stojanovski's two days arrival to Istria brings these questions back in the focus. Did Stojanovski meet with the agent installations of former minister and hague indictee and prisoner Ljube Boskovski in Istria (Croatia)? Did Stojanovski meet with the top members of former „Velebit“ intelligence group? Racan once stopped the investigation on arming the police and the army of Macedonia in these intelligence operations. It is quite logical to ask where did money from that operation go? To private accounts? To accounts of political parties involved in that? Is that why Racan is silent about that? Any way, today when operation „Velebit“ was almost forgotten, it's the reason why president Mesic protects general Stojanovski in case of war crime in Vukovar and Racan (as the present oposition leader) decided to go silence on that. But any objective investigation would bring these things at the day light. The other issue why Mesic protects Stojanovski is the command chain of Jugoslav Army back at 1991. Mesic was then commander in chief of Jugoslav Army and he did nothing to put sanctions on the officers as Stojanovski who participated in war crimes. He even didn't make any public critics on that issue. So he is probably afraid that any investigation on Stojanovski would bring this issue at the focus of some investigation. KURDISH RESISTANCE IS LOSING ITS STRUGGLE AGAINST SADDAM HUSSEIN'S FORCES. KURDISH REBELS AND REFUGEES' PERSONAL OBSERVATIONS AND PERCEPTIONS ARE PROVIDED. TEXT: 1. DURING APRIL 1991, THE SOURCE TELEPHONED BROTHER (SUBSOURCE) [ (b)(1) sec 1.3(a)(4) ][ (b)(7)(D) ] . DURING THIS PHONE CONVERSATION, THE SOURCE WAS ABLE TO OBTAIN THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION ON THE PRESENT SITUATION IN KURDISH AREAS ALONG THE IRAQI-TURKISH-IRANIAN BORDERS -- A. IRAQ'S POSSIBLE EMPLOYMENT OF PHOSPHOROUS CHEMICAL WEAPONS -- IN LATE FEBRUARY 1991, FOLLOWING THE COALITION FORCES' OVERWHELMING VICTORY OVER IRAQ, KURDISH REBELS STEPPED UP THEIR STRUGGLE AGAINST IRAQI FORCES IN NORTHERN IRAQ. DURING THE BRUTAL CRACKDOWN THAT FOLLOWED THE KURDISH UPRISING, IRAQI FORCES LOYAL TO PRESIDENT SADDAM ((HUSSEIN)) MAY HAVE POSSIBLY USED WHITE PHOSPHOROUS (WP) CHEMICAL WEAPONS AGAINST KURDISH REBELS AND THE POPULACE IN ERBIL (GEOCOORD:3412N/04401E) (VICINITY OF IRANIAN BORDER) AND DOHUK (GEOCOORD:3652N/04301E) (VICINITY OF IRAQI BORDER) PROVINCES, IRAQ. THE WP CHEMICAL WAS DELIVERED BY ARTILLERY ROUNDS AND HELICOPTER GUNSHIPS (NO FURTHER INFORMATION AT THIS TIME). APPARENTLY, THIS TIME IRAQ DID NOT USE NERVE GAS AS THEY DID IN 1988, IN HALABJA (GEOCOORD:3511N/04559E), IRAQ, BECAUSE THEY WERE AFRAID OF POSSIBLE RETALIATION FROM THE UNITED STATES (U.S.) LED COALITION. THESE REPORTS OF POSSIBLE WP CHEMICAL WEAPON ATTACKS SPREAD QUICKLY AMONG THE KURDISH POPULACE IN ERBIL AND DOHUK. AS A RESULT, HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF KURDS FLED FROM THESE TWO AREAS AND CROSSED THE IRAQI BORDER INTO TURKEY. IN RESPONSE TO THIS, TURKISH AUTHORITIES ESTABLISHED SEVERAL REFUGEE CENTERS ALONG THE TURKISH-IRAQI BORDER. THE SITUATION OF KURDISH REFUGEES IN THESE CENTERS IS DESPERATE -- THEY HAVE NO SHELTERS, FOOD, WATER, AND MEDICAL FACILITIES (NO FURTHER INFORMATION AT THIS TIME). B. IRAQI GOVERNMENT ULTIMATUM TO KURDS REBELS AND REFUGEES -- ON OR AROUND 2 APRIL 1991, RADIO BAGHDAD ISSUED AN ULTIMATUM TO THE KURDISH REBELS AND REFUGEES WHO FLED IRAQ AND SETTLED IN REFUGEE CENTERS IN TURKEY. IN THE BROADCAST, IRAQI AUTHORITIES WARNED THE KURDS THEY HAD 10 DAYS TO RETURN TO THEIR TOWNS AND VILLAGES, OR ELSE FACE COMPLETE ANNIHILATION. THE IRAQI BROADCAST ALSO PROMISED THE KURDS THAT NO RETALIATORY ACTION WOULD BE TAKEN AGAINST THEM IF THEY WOULD COMPLY WITH THIS ORDER (NO FURTHER INFORMATION AT THIS TIME). C. KURDISH REBELS ARE LOSING IN THEIR STRUGGLE AGAINST SADDAM HUSSEIN'S FORCES -- KURDISH REBELS WHO WERE FIGHTING IN NORTHERN IRAQ WERE FORCED TO WITHDRAW INTO TURKEY BY TROOPS LOYAL TO SADDAM HUSSEIN. POOR ORGANIZATIONAL LEADERSHIP AND LACK OF HEAVY WEAPONS, AMMUNITION, AND SUPPLIES ARE THE PRIMARY CAUSES OF KURDISH LATEST DOWNFALL. THE ONLY GROUP CURRENTLY FIGHTING SADDAM HUSSEIN'S FORCES IN NORTHERN IRAQ IS THE "PESHMERGEH" (FRONT WARRIORS). HOWEVER, THIS GROUP IS ARMED ONLY WITH SMALL ARMS SUCH AS M-60 MACHINE-GUNS, AK-47 RIFLES AND UNKNOWN TYPES OF PISTOLS AND REVOLVERS. D. KURDISH REBELS' EXPECTATION OF RECEIVING HELP FROM U.S. LED COALITION FORCE -- THE KURDISH RESISTANCE'S DECISION TO RISE UP AND FIGHT HUSSEIN'S FORCES WAS TRIGGERED BY THE OVERWHELMING MILITARY POWER DISPLAYED BY THE COALITION DURING "DESERT STORM" AND THE PROPAGANDA BROADCASTS OF VOICE OF AMERICA. KURDISH REBELS AND REFUGEES REALLY BELIEVED THAT EVENTUALLY THE COALITION FORCE WOULD COME TO HELP THEM IN THEIR FIGHTING AGAINST IRAQI FORCES. AFTER LEARNING OF U.S. PRESIDENT BUSH'S "STAY OUT OF IRAQ INTERNAL AFFAIRS" POLICY, KURDISH REBELS AND REFUGEES FELT AS THEY WERE SET UP AND LET DOWN BY THE COALITION FORCE (NO FURTHER INFORMATION AT THIS TIME). E. SADDAM HUSSEIN'S REASON NOT TO USE CHEMICAL WEAPONS AGAINST THE U.S. LED COALITION FORCE DURING "DESERT STORM" -- THE GENERAL PERCEPTION AMONG THE KURDS IS THAT PRESIDENT HUSSEIN DID NOT USE CHEMICAL WEAPONS AGAINST THE COALITION BECAUSE HE WAS AFRAID THAT ALLIES WOULD RETALIATE BY USING BATTLEFIELD NUCLEAR WEAPONS (NO FURTHER INFORMATION AT THIS TIME). COMMENTS: 1. (SOURCE COMMENT) - IRAQ USED WP IN ERBIL AND DOHUK BECAUSE THEY WANTED THE KURDS TO PANIC AND FLEE FROM THE AREA. 2. [ (b)(1) sec 1.3(a)(4) ][ (b)(7)(D) ] 3. (SOURCE COMMENT) - MOST OF THE SMUGGLING OF REFUGEES ALONG THE IRAQI-TURKISH-IRANIAN BORDERS OCCURRED AT NIGHT. 4. (FIELD COMMENT) - ACCORDING TO THE TIMES' WORLD ATLAS, THE TWO IRAQI PROVINCES ERBIL AND DOHUK ARE ALSO CALLED ARBIL AND DIHOK RESPECTIVELY. //IPSP: (U) PGW 2650//. //COMSOBJ: (U) 211//. Ex-Cellmate Says al-Zarqawi Was Tortured

And American troops, believing their leaders when they say that torture is neccesary, have no idea that they are creating more Zarqawi's. I have no doubt that the psychopathic hatred that has consumed Zarqawi stems in large part from his having been tortured. Torture makes the mind snap. It creates hate. America..... by adopting such tactics.... is in fact creating it's own enemies; perhaps even it's own downfall by this behaviour. Mycos~ By TANALEE SMITH, Associated Press Writer AMMAN, Jordan - A man once imprisoned with Iraq's most feared terror leader said Sunday that Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was tortured regularly by Jordanian prison officials in the late 1990s and was held for six months in solitary confinement." cont......

Bush Gang Swore Saddam Was Behind 9/11 In Lawsuit

This is possibly one of the best accounts I've yet read detailing how America has been hijacked for no better rreason than to serve the interests of a small circle of American "warlords" (for lack of a better expression). Read this article, then look at the motives the PNAC exponents; combine this with Wolfowitz and Perles obligations to Zionism..... and every move taken by this administration is explained fully. There is no need to look any further. Mycos~ Bush Gang Swore Saddam Was Behind 9/11 In Lawsuit By Evelyn Pringle 11/16/05 'ICH ' -- -- Much to the dismay of President Bush, Americans can remember all on their own, without any coaching from Democrats, that in the run up to war in Iraq, it was top official from the administration who were making the claim that Saddam was in cahoots with bin Laden and that he was secretly involved to 9/11. The Truth About White Phosphorus

Well, I think we'd all be a little further ahead if we could get a straight answer from someone..anyone... about what takes place during a battle when the technique know as "shake and bake" is used. Now, God forbid that anyone around here would jump to any conclusions about whether the Pentagon is capable of lying to us or not, but just to be on the safe side, I figured maybe I'd do some thinking for myself and see if I might be able to make some sense of the situation, based on what is known about the matter. Now I realize I'm not a military man, and that as such I'm not privy to all the 'intel' on WP, but I think that it's safe to say that the substance is notable for at least three characteristics; it is extremely caustic, extremely toxic..... and it burns real bright, making a damn good flare! Using these features as clues, I went about trying to determine what specific stimulus could possibly be derived from WP that could be so motivating as to make whole bunches of "insurgents" obligingly leap out of their trenches so that they could be cut down by our troops in the conventional manner. Bring my considerable intellect to bear on the problem, I went through the possibilities in an orderly manner and came to a rather stunning conclusion. Becuse we know that the Pentagon would never allow it's field commanders to violate any international conventions banning Chemical weapons, we know that the WP couldn't be (well,it could. But it just wouldn't be) used as a toxin. As already noted, it's against the law and besides, I just don't see these Iraqi's who, upon realizing they've been poisoned, all emerging from their trenches to give our boys some Moslem interpretation of the last big scene in Hamlet. I will admit that the horror of such a spectacle may well be cause for forgiveness should our troops mow down the entire lot using the most expedient method at hand, but I just don't think that Iraqis are so well versed on Shakespeare that they can give an impromptu USO performance of that magnitude. So that's not it..... So what that leaves us with is a choice between WP's use as a flare or in its dry, "caustic" form. The only other time causticity has been known to been used in battle was during the seige of a French castle during the campaign to capture the Holy Grail. Deffending the fortress was a lone Frenchman armed with an extremely caustic tongue. During the brief sequence captured by the Python war correspondents, we see a "taunting" so vicious...so cruel, that it's legacy exists to this day as a ban by all English speakers everywhere on caustic agents of any kind. Of course that leaves us with but one possibility. Moths. Yes...moths. Clearly the use of WP in battle is sufficient to lure battle hardened soldiers out of their trenches even where the most horrific pounding of high explosive shells could not. Iraqi insurgents have a "jumping gene" so to speak which causes them to jump out of their trenches and chase WP flares in the same way a moth is attracted to a lightbulb. As such, there is absolutely nothing for these nasty rumours about using WP as an incendiary weapon to rest on. It is simply not needed. Why would the U.S. risk it's reputation as a moral "giant among nations" by using such prohibited and vile weapons as incendiaries when it is now known that something as simple as a flashlight can be used to lead Iraqi's insurgents out of their trenches and to their deaths. Indeed. Why would they? Mycos

Rights and Liberties: The Torture Test

AlterNet: Rights and Liberties: The Torture Test: "Your questions suggest that you really believe that the US went after Hussein because he was a 'bad man' and he threatened the US with WMD's. Then you have the nerve to ask me about N. Korea. N. Korea has a dictator who actually has nuclear weapons. He also has a country full of people who will actually commit mass suicide for their 'Dear Leader', surely the best army one can hope to have if your going to start a nuclear war. So if it's all about the threat to the US from WMD's, where's all the outrage over Kim Jong Il? Or even Iran for that matter? You mentioned the humanitarian disaster of Rwanda, then asked questions about Hussein, as if being a tyrant is some kind of determinant as to whether the US should attack another country. Again, what about Korea? That's a Stalinist modeled dictatorship and there's every reason to believe that the N. Koreans aren't faring much better under Jong Il. We know of slavery in concentration camps for political prisoners, of torture and of the deliberate starvation of hundreds of thousands.... at least. But that Hussein! He's sure a bad man! And you act as though we only now learned about his crimes anyhow. We've known about him, his attack on the Kurds, as well as his chemical weapons since the 80's. Why the importance now? And what about Idi Amin, Taylor, Somoza and a dozens of other dictators who tortured and murdered hundreds of thousands while the US did nothing. Do you really think the US would attack another country based simply on it's human rights record? LOL. Lemme let you in a little secret. The US, and particularly this government considers a person or a countries worth by what they represent in monetary or strategic value to the US. As such, the Sudanese, the Liberians, the Haitians, etc., have no value in such a worldview. And they are all now dying far away from the attention of the US media. But should they have oil, or pose a threatIsrael or the Saudi Royal family and of course the American economy, that's another whole matter. That's why, once Hussein was no longer playing ball by US rules, suddenly the "poor Iraqi's" are on the front pages." And there's Chalabi, ready and willing to tell all these horror stories (many now known to be BS) to the senate and more importantly to the press. To you. And just like the little nurse who stood in front of congress and told how Iraqi soldiers threw babies out of incubators during the Kuwaiti invasion, it was bullshit. That was the daughter of a Kuwaiti ambassador. But you all bought their crap back then, so I can only suppose that they thought you'd buy it a second time. Now.....Can you possibly imagine the level of disdain these people must have for your intelligence? That you'd fall for it twice? But the kick of it is, they're right! You buy everything they send your way, provided it is sufficiently hyped up. Al Qaeda for instance. They pose no threat whatsoever to the border integrity or economy of the US. 9/11 was spectacular and frightening. But that's all it was. Every ill that has befallen the US since that time has been under the direction and orders of the WH. They took your rights away with the Patriot Act. They sent soldiers to Iraq to get killed. They have smeared the name of the US with the torture and lies. Terrorists existed long before al Qaeda and they will always exist as long as people have grievance's with governments. How did we handle them before then? Why all the hyper-ventilating now? Here's the big answer my friend. PNAC. Look it up. Read it. Look at the authors. Then look at who has been brought into this WH as advisers or key officials of one kind or another. Then look at what has taken place during the Bush administration. If you believe that this could all be a coincidence, well...God bless your soul. Your going to need it should you allow these men proceed any further. Mycos

House Budget Measure Is Pulled

Big cracks opening in the GOP. This could be the end folks! G~ House Budget Measure Is Pulled: "House Budget Measure Is Pulled Moderates Buck GOP Leadership In Both Chambers By Jonathan Weisman and Shailagh Murray Washington Post Staff Writers Friday, November 11, 2005; Page A01 House Republican leaders were forced to abruptly pull their $54 billion budget-cutting bill off the House floor yesterday, amid growing dissension in Republican ranks over spending priorities, taxes, oil exploration and the reach of government. A battle between House Republican conservatives and moderates over energy policy and federal anti-poverty and education programs left GOP leaders without enough votes to pass a budget measure they had framed as one of the most important pieces of legislation in years. Across the Capitol, a moderate GOP revolt in the Senate Finance Committee forced Republicans to postpone action on a bill to extend some of President Bush's most contentious tax cuts."

The “enemies list” dates back to Bush’s days as governor of Texas and can be accessed by senior administration officials in an instant for use in campaigns to discredit those who speak out against administration policies or acts of the President. Independent Online Edition > Americas: "Bush rebuked by the hand of God By Phil Davison Published: 06 November 2005 George Bush presumably knew before this weekend that the 'hand of God' could be merciless. He certainly does now. Maradona, rather than Iraq, was uppermost on the US President's mind this weekend as he attended a summit of leaders from the Western hemisphere in the Argentinian beach resort of Mar del Plata. As domestic polls informed him that he was increasingly mistrusted by his fellow Americans, Mr Bush was clearly mortified to be called 'human trash' by Latin America's equivalent of Michael Jordan - the Argentinian football legend Diego Maradona." cont......

The reality of Britain's reliance on torture

The reality of Britain's reliance on torture: "The reality of Britain's reliance on torture Torture means the woman who was raped with a broken bottle, and died after 10 days of agony By Craig Murray 10/27/05 'The Independent' -- -- The Government has been arguing before the House of Lords for the right to act on intelligence obtained by torture abroad. It wants to be able to use such material to detain people without trial in the UK, and as evidence in the courts. Key to its case is a statement to the Law Lords by the head of MI5, Eliza Manningham-Buller. In effect she argues that torture works. It foiled the famous ricin plot. She omits to mention that no more ricin was found than is the naturally occurring base level in your house or mine - or indeed that no poison of any kind was found. But let us leave that for now."

"No WMD's Here!" The Pentagon has gassed us all

Decades of dumping chemical arms leave a risky legacy BY JOHN M.R. BULL Daily Press (Newport News, Va.) NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - In the summer of 2004, a clam-dredging operation off New Jersey pulled up an old artillery shell. The long-submerged World War I-era explosive was filled with a black tarlike substance. Bomb disposal technicians from Dover Air Force Base, Del., were brought in to dismantle it. Three of them were injured - one hospitalized with large pus-filled blisters on an arm and hand. The shell was filled with mustard gas in solid form. What was long feared by the few military officials in the know had come to pass: Chemical weapons that the Army dumped at sea decades ago finally ended up on shore in the United States. It's long been known that some chemical weapons went into the ocean, but records obtained by the Daily Press show that the previously classified weapons-dumping program was far more extensive than ever suspected. The Army now admits that it secretly dumped 64 million pounds of nerve and mustard agents into the sea, along with 400,000 chemical-filled bombs, land mines and rockets and more than 500 tons of radioactive waste - either tossed overboard or packed into the holds of scuttled vessels. A Daily Press investigation also found: These weapons of mass destruction virtually ring the country, concealed off at least 11 states - six on the East Coast, two on the Gulf Coast, California, Hawaii and Alaska. Few, if any, state officials have been informed of their existence......Cont

Confessions of a Marine

Confessions of a Marine By Jean-Paul Mari Le Nouvel Observateur Thursday 27 October 2005 edition Iraq: The story no American publisher wanted. In a just-published book, Master-Sergeant Jimmy Massey tells about his mission to recruit for, then fight in, the war in Iraq. He tells why he killed. And cracked. Jimmy Massey is 34 years old. He's originally a Texas boy, raised as a good Southern Baptist who loves squirrel hunting with his air rifle. After 12 years in the Marines, Jim is a broken man, a veteran afflicted with Post-Traumatic Stress Syndrome, a depressive hooked on his medications, haunted by the nightmare images in which he massacres innocent civilians, scenes experienced in Iraq when he was nothing but a killing machine. Jim has cracked, has withdrawn from the service for medical reasons, and has written a raw and brutal book. Telling the life of a Marine of today, revealing "how he talks, how he thinks, how he fucks, and how he kills." The army denies the facts and his former comrades have insulted, rejected, and threatened him. His testimony ulcerates Neo-Conservative America and shocks the politically correct. In the United States, no publishing house has dared to publish his manuscript. Extracts follow. The Recruiter When you're a recruiter, you have to learn fast. And I rapidly learned that if I wanted to keep my job, I couldn't allow myself to have any scruples. I went to public schools every day where I was able to contact young people easily." cont.........

AOL link to Wolfowitz "Cabal"

Here's another article that fits perfectly with the mounting evidence showing that the Perle/Wolfowitz network is recieving assistance from corporations that should be in the practice of protecting citizens privacy rights. But, as with all plans with the magnitude as PNAC, side-stepping the established laws and regulations...particularly those that might reveal their true intentions....is a neccesity. Plans like PNAC must... by their very nature.... seek to erode the laws of the existing status quo. This is why new laws of a type that evade international human rights laws must either be implemented, or evaded. Thus we have the Patriot Laws and the legal excuses provided by Alberto Gonzales regarding torture. The recent indictment of Libby has shone a little light into a corner of the financial motive that keeps the non-Zionists interested in hiding the true extent of their intentions, but I doubt it will go any further than that. Not until Cheney is indicted, or at least under extreme financial pressure, will he say anything about his complicency in the plan to throw the American military into what is esentially a "holy war" against the Arabs. This is neccesary to the Perle's and Wolfowitz's plan to insure the long-term existence of Israel by establishing its super-power status in the Middle East. The "Cheneys" are in it for the war profits, and the Pentagon is in it for the "glory" of the USA. This is particularly true when the chicken-hawks rule the roost, as they do now of course. Shades of Dr. Strangelove. Unfortunately, Cheney and other non-Zionists in Washington will follow Wolfowitz to the bitter end. The profits to be made from the wars necesary to the PNAC/Israeli plan are too tempting for men as ethically stunted as Cheney and the "Texecutioner". Mycos~

Fow News' Extreme Bias Revealed

I've had many an argument with the sheeple of America over whether FOX news is biased in it's reporting or not. Well, if there was ever proof of a circumstantial nature, this must be it. Below is the FOX news main page with it's lead story highlighted. Now...you would think that perhaps they don't think the LIbby indictment is the most important story and so have featured it further down the page. But oh no... It's not even on the website! News is what they say it is, and what is bad for the GOP should not be discussed publicly. It's dirty laundry and good people don't discuss it. They hide it away in a closet, just as they do with all their other "methinks thy doth protest to much" inclinations and outright perversions. So why isn't the Libby indictment news? It's too embarrassing to their leader! They feel that if they don't tell the people...if they pretend it's not important, then maybe the sheeple will think the same way about it and we can all just forgive Dick and George for their treasonous behaviour in office. Then it would be business as usual for everybody , right? Well, that is if you happen to own a business.... a notion they are also very careful to avoid getting the sheeple all concerned about, you can be sure of that. Behold! Biased news in extremis! Donald Rumsfeld to Profit Big Time From Tamilflu Sales

Donald Rumsfeld to Profit Big Time So those 20 million doses the government has authorized will cost US Taxpayers 2 BILLION dollars. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld will likely profit handsomely from the announcement the government is purchasing $2 billion of Tamiflu, the drug developed by Gilead Sciences when Rumsfeld was president of the company. He is reported to hold major portions of stock in Gilead Not very different from his previous experience with aspartame where he was president of Searle and was able to get asparatame approved after being blocked by the FDA for more than a decade. Now I think very few of us would mind if this drug actually worked and prevented even a few people from dying. But does it do that? Not really. About all anyone can expect from this drug is that it might make the symptoms a bit less severe. On the downside (aside from setting you back $100) Dr. Tenpenny explained in her Flu Tele Clinic last week Tamiflu can actually cause the virus to mutate into a more dangerous and potent viral strain. Yesterday US Congress asked Roche, the maker of Tamiflu to suspend its patent and have others make it because they could not likely keep up with the demand, but of course Roche refused saying Tamiflu is hard to make and it would take another company three years to "get up to speed". What they were really saying is they could care less about the public, what their primary focus on was to not share their windfall profits mandated by the US Congress.

Secret MoD poll: Iraqis support attacks on British troops

Secret MoD poll: Iraqis support attacks on British troops By Sean Rayment, Defence Correspondent (Filed: 23/10/2005) Millions of Iraqis believe that suicide attacks against British troops are justified, a secret military poll commissioned by senior officers has revealed. The poll, undertaken for the Ministry of Defence and seen by The Sunday Telegraph, shows that up to 65 per cent of Iraqi citizens support attacks and fewer than one per cent think Allied military involvement is helping to improve security in their country. It demonstrates for the first time the true strength of anti-Western feeling in Iraq after more than two and a half years of bloody occupation. The nationwide survey also suggests that the coalition has lost the battle to win the hearts and minds of the Iraqi people, which Tony Blair and George W Bush believed was fundamental to creating a safe and secure country. cont......

The Bush Administration ( in a few words)

After more than a year of research, filtering through hundreds of hours of footage and blogs, the 'Rove's War' double DVD set weighs in at 150+ minutes of Red Meat for those that want to know exactly where, when, what and who pulled treasonous crimes - as we shred media propaganda and rumors, and expose the Truth. Showcasing the Downing Street Minutes hearing and Joe Wilson's testimony, 'Rove's War' weaves the tale of how Valerie Plame's outing can be traced to Saudi ties with the Bush Family and Administration, exposes breathtaking corruption in both the CIA, Pentagon and State Department leading to a War based on intentionally faulty, cherry picked intelligence by rogue elements in the Bush corner. The story includes how the White House Iraq Group or 'WHIG' conspired while supplying lies, dodges, and obfuscations, with the goal of filling Halliburton's coffers while destroying the section of the CIA that was in search of actual weapons of mass destruction, who was spying on the Saudis. There's more to the outing of Plame than meets the eye. Rove's War explores the relationships between Dick Cheney and John Bolton, Judith Miller and Scooter Libby, Bolton's thugs and their internal battle against the State Department, George Tenet rolling over for Bush and Cheney, concealing the proof that there was no Iraq nuclear capability from the public since 1991 -- proof provided long before Bush sent our troops to die for his own purposes. They all knew there were no nukes in Iraq for more than 20 years. You'll find out how they blew Plame's undercover status in the Brewster and Jennings Company to protect the Saudi ARAMCO oil company -- known for one of their subsidiaries actually named an oil tanker 'Condoleeza Rice' -- which many in the Bush administration have an interest. The outing wasn't just to punish Joe Wilson, it was meant to send a message to other other whistleblowers. A shockwave radiated through the CIA and spies all over the world, putting hundreds of lives at risk, on just a political whim." cont......

SPJ Undercuts First Amendment With Miller Award

SPJ Undercuts First Amendment With Miller Award 10/19/05 The Society of Professional Journalists’ decision to give its prestigious "First Amendment Award" to embattled New York Times reporter Judith Miller is a blow to freedom of expression. By rewarding a reporter who was apparently collaborating with and protecting a powerful official in an effort to punish the free speech of a government critic, the SPJ is undermining, not advancing, the principles of the First Amendment. The award, coming two days after details of Miller’s involvement in the CIA leak story and her grand jury testimony were revealed by the New York Times (10/16/05), was defended by SPJ board member Mac McKerral, who told Editor & Publisher (10/17/05), “It’s not a lifetime achievement award.... I could understand people being upset if we were recognizing her work over a period of time, but this is an award for being willing to not reveal a source, willing to spend so many days in jail, and that is how we distinguish it…. Issues raised in the past couple of days really had no bearing on the award." But why wouldn't new information about the case be relevant to a journalism group? For months, Miller claimed a journalistic privilege to protect Vice President Dick Cheney’s chief of staff, Lewis Libby. Miller would eventually tell the grand jury that Libby had identified Valerie Plame Wilson--the wife of White House critic and former Ambassador Joseph Wilson--as a CIA employee (New York Times, 10/16/05). Miller seemed to have little doubt about what motivated this disclosure: Asked why she agreed to Libby's request to identify him only as a “former Hill staffer,” Miller told the grand jury, “I assumed Mr. Libby did not want the White House to be seen as attacking Mr. Wilson.” http://www.fair.org/index.php?page=2701

Cheney cabal hijacked US foreign policy’

And here's an item that supports my contention that most everything Americans think they have been fighting for has, all this time, been an illusion. In fact, all they've been dying for is to promote the business interests of Cheney Co.. Specifically where these business opportunities coincide with the PNAC plans of the Wolfowitz, Rumsfeld bunch. Cheney is a war-priofiteer and promoter while Rummy and his bunch seek to dominate 'at least' the Middle East militarily, and hopefully through the seizure of oil assets, to dominate the rest of the world economically. If there was only some way of sitting people down and showing them the facts. Surely they'd have to open their eyes to the reality of how used they all have been. Miller's Lawyer Says Aide May Face 'Problem' in Probe

Miller's Lawyer Says Aide May Face 'Problem' in Probe Indeed! Libby is going down and he knows it. In fact, I'll bet that within a week, Libby is gone from the White House. Bush is only holding on to him at this point because to release him now would be as much as fingering him as the guilty party....something he may do in order to shift the blame off of his ol' pal and confidante, Karl "Turd Blossom" Rove (he only gives pet names to his friends. Right Brownie?). This brings up what must be a terrible dillemma for the power players in the WH. Cheney of course, is no lightweight. I'll wager he is weilding as much actual power as Bush. Bush may have the power of his office at the moment, but Cheney weilds far more personal power. When Georgy is gone from office, you can bet that even Bushes own parents respect Cheney's will more than theior kid. Well, now that I think about it, that's probably a bad example. GHWB and Babs almost certainly respect Cheney more than they do Dubya. I mean, they know the guy! What more is there to say? Anyhow, back to the WH, this puts Dubya in the middle of maintaining his loyalty to Rove, or putting Libby, and thereby Cheney's office, on the chopping block to deflect from Rove. Cheney, as far as I know anyhow, owes Rove nothing--- nor vice versa. So what's a Dubya to do what with Cheney breathing down his back, trying to get him to dump Rove. Yup. Things must be awfully tense around there this upcoming Halloween. I wonder what kind of tricks and treats Mr. Fitzgerald will have for us all due the coming festivities.

Officials unaware of reporter's special status

Watch this angle. I'll wager a good penny that this is going to be presented as her own "boasting" among the troops or using this angle to try to get information that she normally wouldn't have been allowed access to, but that she only did and said it on her own, and that she really didn't have any special clearance. But I believe it wqill turn out that she did indeed. That Miller is a government operative who has infiltrated the press with the intent to mislead the public. This is a very serious crime, and the government officials who concieved and ordered it are quite possibly guilty of high treason. More GOP Propaganda

Take a look at this new effort from the GOP. In The Know The sure have some balls, considering that they were just found guilty of using propaganda in the Armstrong Williams(?) affair. So what do they do? Set straight out and do a complete newscast. Sure, it's on the GOP site now. But they've removed all indication of their involvement in their production during their run. It's only afterwards, on a separate piece of tape spliced into it, that they reveal their part. Their hope is that these segments will make it into other forums where that attribution will be missing. Pure sleaze.... Mycos "

The liar of the week

Liar of the week: George W. Bush said on his Saturday radio address a week and a half ago that Iraq has 100 battalions of battle-ready soldiers. By the time he got to his television address on Thursday, it was 80 battalions. (I guess it’s worse to lie if they’re taking pictures of you.) Unfortunately, the next day Gen. George Casey, who oversees U.S. forces in Iraq, said of those 80, the number of Iraqi battalions fit to fight independently of U.S. support had slipped from three to one. One, three, 80, 100 — if this is Tuesday, it must be..."

The Police State Is Closer Than You Think

Greeetings Captain Courageous.... Just a reminder to y'all, now that I got your attention. Mycos~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ By Paul Craig Roberts 10/08/05 "ICH" -- -- Police states are easier to acquire than Americans appreciate. The hysterical aftermath of September 11 has put into place the main components of a police state. Habeas corpus is the greatest protection Americans have against a police state. Habeas corpus ensures that Americans can only be detained by law. They must be charged with offenses, given access to attorneys, and brought to trial. Habeas corpus prevents the despotic practice of picking up a person and holding him indefinitely. President Bush claims the power to set aside habeas corpus and to dispense with warrants for arrest and with procedures that guarantee court appearance and trial without undue delay. Today in the US, the executive branch claims the power to arrest a citizen on its own initiative and hold the citizen indefinitely. Thus, Americans are no longer protected from arbitrary arrest and indefinite detention. cont.....

The dark side of faith

Of course, this is nothing new to those of us who are atheists. Consider the simple fact that believing in a supernatural force as existing in our real world without any evidence whatsoever opens the door for our children to say to themselves that it's OK to believe in things without any evidence. That obviously opens the door for all kinds of trouble, in and of itself..... never mind the justifications that come with the "religion" package for hurting others. Mycos~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The dark side of faith By ROSA BROOKS IT'S OFFICIAL: Too much religion may be a dangerous thing. This is the implication of a study reported in the current issue of the Journal of Religion and Society, a publication of Creighton University's Center for the Study of Religion. The study, by evolutionary scientist Gregory S. Paul, looks at the correlation between levels of "popular religiosity" and various "quantifiable societal health" indicators in 18 prosperous democracies, including the United States. Paul ranked societies based on the percentage of their population expressing absolute belief in God, the frequency of prayer reported by their citizens and their frequency of attendance at religious services. He then correlated this with data on rates of homicide, sexually transmitted disease, teen pregnancy, abortion and child mortality." cont.....

REPORTERS WITHOUT BORDERS PROTEST LETTER BECAUSE ARREST OF CROATIAN JORUNALISTS AND INDICTMENTS AGAINST OTHER CROATIAN JOURNALISTS

Croatia 7 October 2005 Journalist arrested at home on the order of the international criminal court for ex-Yugoslavia Reporters Without Borders called for the release on bail of journalist Josip Jovic, arrested at his Split home on the order of the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) on a charge of contempt of court. The 6 October 2005 arrest of Jovic, editor of the daily Slobodna Dalmacija was televised and shown the same evening on Croatian TV since he was in process of giving an interview at his home. Jovic’s arrest followed the issue of a warrant by the ICTY signed by a judge at a court in Split. He was placed in custody in a local prison while awaiting extradition to The Hague, which could take several weeks since he plans to appeal to the Croatian constitutional court and the Supreme Court. “We condemn this sudden arrest of Jovic by the Croatian justice system based on a ICTY arrest warrant, which appears disproportionate to the crime he is accused of and sets a dangerous precedent,” the worldwide press freedom organisation said.Considering the mandate of the tribunal in The Hague, which is supposed to try the most serious of international crimes, it is surprising that one of its decisions led to the arrest of a journalist who, even if he did not respect the law, has not committed a crime of violence.” “The same goes for the four other Croatian journalists also accused of contempt of court. Considering that this journalist represents no danger for Croatia and the ICTY, he should be released on bail.” Jovic failed to appear before the judges in The Hague on 26 September, unlike his colleague Marijan Krizic, editor of the weekly Hrvatsko Slovo, who answered his summons and was allowed to leave the court again freely. The two journalists are accused of contempt of court, along with Ivica Marijacic, editor of Hrvatski List, Stjepan Seselj, editor of Hrvatsko Slovo, and Domagoj Margetic, editor of Novo Hrvatsko Slovo, for revealing the identity of a protected witnesses, the current Croatian President, Stipe Mesic, at the trial of Tihomir Blaskic in 1997. They face up to seven years in prison and a fine of 100,000 euros. The trial of Ivica Marijacic, Stjepan Seselj, and Domagoj Margetic, who revealed the identity of Mesic in their newspapers in November 2004, is to open at the end of October. This confidential information had already been posted on the Documentation and Information Centre Veritas (www.veritas.org.yu) in 1999, and carried by the Bosnian daily Bih Dani, on 1st June 2001. “I will act in solidarity with my colleague and I prefer to go to prison rather than plead guilty before the ICTY”, Domagoj Margetic told Reporters Without Borders. The ICTY chief prosecutor, Carla Del Ponte, said on 4 October that she was in favour of membership talks between Croatia and the EU, since Zagreb was fully cooperating with the ICTY. She had given an unfavourable opinion in March, complaining that the Croatian authorities were dragging their feet in arresting fugitive general, Ante Govina, charged by judges in The Hague in 2001. US forces' use of depleted uranium weapons is 'illegal' - [Sunday Herald] By Neil Mackay, Investigations Editor BRITISH and American coalition forces are using depleted uranium (DU) shells in the war against Iraq and deliberately flouting a United Nations resolution which classifies the munitions as illegal weapons of mass destruction. DU contaminates land, causes ill-health and cancers among the soldiers using the weapons, the armies they target and civilians, leading to birth defects in children. Professor Doug Rokke, ex-director of the Pentagon's depleted uranium project -- a former professor of environmental science at Jacksonville University and onetime US army colonel who was tasked by the US department of defence with the post-first Gulf war depleted uranium desert clean-up -- said use of DU was a 'war crime'." cont......

Wal-Mart Turns in Student’s Anti-Bush Photo,

Matthew Rothschild October 4, 2005 Selina Jarvis is the chair of the social studies department at Currituck County High School in North Carolina, and she is not used to having the Secret Service question her or one of her students. But that’s what happened on September 20." Jarvis had assigned her senior civics and economics class “to take photographs to illustrate their rights in the Bill of Rights,” she says. One student “had taken a photo of George Bush out of a magazine and tacked the picture to a wall with a red thumb tack through his head. Then he made a thumb’s down sign with his own hand next to the President’s picture, and he had a photo taken of that, and he pasted it on a poster.” According to Jarvis, the student, who remains anonymous, was just doing his assignment, illustrating the right to dissent. But over at the Kitty Hawk Wal-Mart, where the student took his film to be developed, this right is evidently suspect. An employee in that Wal-Mart photo department called the Kitty Hawk police on the student. And the Kitty Hawk police turned the matter over to the Secret Service. On Tuesday, September 20, the Secret Service came to Currituck High. cont......

Quiz hints at Miers' views on gay rights

Does anyone in their right mind actually believe Bush when he makes statements like this?

"'Not to my recollection have I ever sat down with her [to discuss abortion],' Bush said Tuesday at his first solo press conference since May. 'What I have done is understand the type of person she is and the type of judge she will be.'"
And this about Miers....
She told the group she believed gay men and lesbians should have the same civil rights as straight Americans, but that she opposed repeal of the state's sodomy law criminalizing same-sex sexual conduct.
IOW, she's either completely stupid...how do you think gays should have all the civil rights of others except the right to make love to eah other?....or she's dishonest and was trying to answer the test in a manner that she deemed politicallly acceptable to some other voting profile. In any case, anyone who would go on record as saying she thought bush was smart is not an acceptable person to have authority over the lives of pet hamsters, nevertheless the lives of many people for years to come. In any case, c'mon...take a look.

A New Measure of Well-Being From a Happy Little Kingdom - New York Times

What is happiness? In the United States and in many other industrialized countries, it is often equated with money. Economists measure consumer confidence on the assumption that the resulting figure says something about progress and public welfare. The gross domestic product, or G.D.P., is routinely used as shorthand for the well-being of a nation. But the small Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan has been trying out a different idea. In 1972, concerned about the problems afflicting other developing countries that focused only on economic growth, Bhutan's newly crowned leader, King Jigme Singye Wangchuck, decided to make his nation's priority not its G.D.P. but its G.N.H., or gross national happiness. Bhutan, the king said, needed to ensure that prosperity was shared across society and that it was balanced against preserving cultural traditions, protecting the environment and maintaining a responsive government. The king, now 49, has been instituting policies aimed at accomplishing these goals. Now Bhutan's example, while still a work in progress, is serving as a catalyst for far broader discussions of national well-being. Around the world, a growing number of economists, social scientists, corporate leaders and bureaucrats are trying to develop measurements that take into account not just the flow of money but also access to health care, free time with family, conservation of natural resources and other noneconomic factors. The goal, according to many involved in this effort, is in part to return to a richer definition of the word happiness, more like what the signers of the Declaration of Independence had in mind when they included "the pursuit of happiness" as an inalienable right equal to liberty and life itself.

"Rule Of Law" Dead In America

"I am slowly dying in this solitary prison cell," says Omar Deghayes, a British refugee and Guantánamo Bay prisoner. "I have no rights, no hope. So why not take my destiny into my own hands, and die for a principle?" This magazine goes to press on the forty-ninth day of the Guantánamo hunger strike. In 1981 near Belfast, Bobby Sands and nine other members of the IRA starved themselves to death. The prisoners had insisted that they be treated as POWs rather than criminals. They died before the British government accepted that its use of kangaroo courts and its policy of "criminalization" did not just betray democratic principles; these methods functioned as the most persuasive recruiting sergeant the IRA ever had. How soon these lessons are forgotten. Three and a half years of internment without trial in Guantánamo, and any US claim to be the standard-bearer of the rule of law has dissolved. But there are two important distinctions between the experience of Sands and Omar Deghayes: The US military has insisted on secrecy regarding Guantánamo, and the US media have been compliant in their apathy. Despite the traditional British hostility to free speech, every moment of Bobby Sands's decline was broadcast live. In contrast, nothing we lawyers learn from our Guantánamo clients can be revealed until it passes the US government censors. Thus, two weeks went by before the public even knew there was a hunger strike, and the military has been allowed to dissemble on the details since. Who is Judy Miller Kidding?

To be fair, wasn't the initial consent form that Libby signed actually a consent form that Bush made his entire staff sign in an effort to defuse some finger pointing back in the day? Yes, it can be said that it was consensual because he didn't have to sign it, but we all know that the alternative was to be fired. Having said that however, I believe there is almost certainly much more to the story. Given that the first consent form wasn't really such, why did it take so long for Miller to get the one she says she was comfortable with as being unforced? Surely, if we are to believe Miller, why did it take so long fvor Libby to get this information? If Libby knew that Miller wasn't happy with the status of the first one, why did it take so long for him to authorize the second one? He surely did. What we don't know is what kind of negotiations have been going on during the time that Miller was just sitting there. No. There is much more to this story that we still know nothing about. We do know that Miller is a little sleazebag who will do and say anything to suck up to power, and we know that this administration values that type of person very highly. As proof, witness the Congressional Medal Of Honor given to Tenet for taking the heat off the White House when it became clear that they were lying about WMD's. That whole thing was straight reciprocity. I believe the key to this lies in the terms that Miller established before she would appear, specifically that their scope be limited to her relationship with Libby. In other words Ms. Huffington, you would do well to ask the questions that Miller established that Fitz and the GJ would not ask.

DEA Watch (The Wallenstein Solution)

If these guys weren't actually being armed by the government, minds like this would be hilarious. As is, they're certainly to be pitied. Imagine all this rage, all this parranoia and militaristic thinking being brought to bear on "making sure no pill fell into the wrong hands". Incredible. A perfect example of how far out of focus decades of propaganda can bring the minds of the more simple leader/follower types. Mycos~ .....(and) because of our country's military humiliations, butt-kickings, toss-outs and embarrassments over the past thirty years, Mr. Rumsfeld and others have decided that taking a CEO approach to dealing with armed opponents, that is, creating private armies, to win where official armies fail. (It is believed that there are approximately 170,000 allied controlled mercenaries operating in Iraq for various corporations and CIA covers... outnumbering the approx 120,000 US military personnel. Our own agency tried creating units of privatized 'soldiers' to serve in South America to deal with the armed insurrectionists protecting the drug cartels who finance their aggression... private 'cops' replaced DEA 1811's in the jungles. All of these private mercenaries have also failed. Now, instead of simply using S/A's who already have all the necessary training to secure pharmacies in troubled areas, HQ is reportedly thinking about providing 1811 training to 1801's... in short, giving guns to bookkeepers and pill counters. The cure for securing pharmacies is not training 1801's to serve as 1811's, the simple cure is acquiring better management personnel in HQ... a sharp Administrator and/or DepyAdministrator would have instantly recognized the need to send teams of agents into the storm areas before or immediately after the bad weather to make sure no pill fell into the wrong hands. Instead of minding the store the females in charge of DEA were making muffins, painting their fingernails, or organizing their tampon drawer."

Ontario Womans Murder should Be A Warning To Martin

Why Paul Martin seems so determined to follow Dubya's lead in modeling the world in the way that his PNAC/neocon advisors have been doing is made all the more ineffable when one sees the kind of world...the social world and it's behaviours that led to the creation of men who would dream up that way of wanting to model the world. MILOSEVIC'S POLICE AND THE MASSACRES

This may be old news to many but I would like to remind people that nationalism is still alive and doing very well in many troublespots in the world, including of course the United States. Nationalism to me is best described as the unquestioning patriotism of someone to a particular set of borders, and/or to a leader of said country as long as those leaders are percieved as doing it for "Their country". This mindset is at least as dangerous as religious fanaticism and the intolerance that it breeds. I could go on at length about how very wrong it is to put something as intangible, as changeable, as negotiable as as mere borders ahead of human life, but the subject is one requiring some deep personal reflection on the part of the reader, and so is not suited to a "blog". Letter To Manhattan Institute Regarding Bennett And His Apologists

I watched with great sadness how your fellow Manhattan Institute "expert" on race matters tried to obscure the racist words of Bill Bennett. It was a very poor showing from someone whom you had apparently thought highly enough to have given this responsibilty. The attempt to alter Bennetts words from being those of a racist, expressing his opinion that if Blacks were aborted then the crime rate would go down, to those of someone who was only expressing a hypothetical, failed miserably. But then again, the task was momnumental. Bennett's words were clear. For Dr. McWhorter to have even attempted to try the angle he did gives me cause to think that his position as a Senior Fellow was granted using some other criteria than his common sense. What he failed to express during the interview on CNN was that *any* group of people who's population has been reduced, be it through abortion, war, disease, etc., will commit less crime. It is a statistical certainty. To be a little clearer about the situation, the crime rate among Venusians is extremely low. This should not be a surprise, yet the logic of that seems to have escaped both McWhorter and Bennett, as well as any number of news-anchors and pundits who, unfortunately, have been placed in a position to influence the minds of Americans. Given the mathematical certainty of the crime/population ratio as I have painted for you above, the question should then be; why did Bennett choose Blacks as being the group who's numbers, if reduced, would lead to an overall decline in criminal activity? The answer is clear. He equates blacks *in particular* with crime. This is racism. Mycos
