US forces' use of depleted uranium weapons is 'illegal' - [Sunday Herald]

US forces' use of depleted uranium weapons is 'illegal' - [Sunday Herald] By Neil Mackay, Investigations Editor BRITISH and American coalition forces are using depleted uranium (DU) shells in the war against Iraq and deliberately flouting a United Nations resolution which classifies the munitions as illegal weapons of mass destruction. DU contaminates land, causes ill-health and cancers among the soldiers using the weapons, the armies they target and civilians, leading to birth defects in children. Professor Doug Rokke, ex-director of the Pentagon's depleted uranium project -- a former professor of environmental science at Jacksonville University and onetime US army colonel who was tasked by the US department of defence with the post-first Gulf war depleted uranium desert clean-up -- said use of DU was a 'war crime'." cont......

Well Gary .. this Sunday Herald reporter sure does not do much research ..

Doug Rokke is a retired Army Reserve Major, like I am a retired Air Force Reserve Lieutenant Colonel .. unlike him, I am entitled to the honorific of "Colonel" .. he is not.

He never was Professor of Environmental Science at Jacksonville State University .. he was fired by them and never held a professorship .. My source is going to put me in touch with a fellow instructor at Jacksonville and I expect to be able to learn more about why Jacksonville fired him just like the Army fired him.

He never was Director of the Army's Depleted Uranium Project .. he was a GS-13 Director of the Bradley Army Radiation Laboratory at the Army Chemical School, Fort McClellan, Alabama, but was fired for failure to perform at the six month point .. his job there was to supervise the development of training materials and instructors in training courses .. that hardly is the "Depleted Uranium Project".

First Lieutenant Rokke, Army Reserve, was activated during Desert Storm and participated as an observer of DU clean up operations .. he was not tasked by the Army to head the clean up .. he was a very junior officer who was considered by the officers who were tasked with radiation monitoring and soldier education as being untrained and inexperienced. I will be glad to send the 1991 Colonel's memo to anyone who asks .. I have it in Adobe Acrobat form.

What is Rokke .. he is a superb actor .. read his resume .. I have that too, but unlike the reporters who suck up to him because they are anti-war (and I am just anti-lies about non-existent war crimes, not anti-the anti-war movement) - he is a charlatan and a liar. He is superb at getting the press because the Army will not refute him directly by just publishing the records. I have asked for his records, but have not yet obtained them, but I have been in correspondence with two Colonels who personally knew him and a couple of other people who also knew him, one of whom gave me a very vivid description of the way Rokke behaved after he was fired by the Army Radiation Laboratory. (Some also claim that he was fired because he blew the whistle on DU .. whistleblowers have rights and there would have been a Merit Systems Protection Board case if he had really been a whistleblower, but he was not a whistleblower, he just did not cut the mustard and refused to attend required training because he thought it beneath him)

Why have I decided to make this exhaustive investigation of Rokke? .. he slandered me all over the world using his mouthpiece Bob Nichols who likes to claim that he is a "Project Censored Award" journalist but who never was a real journalist at a newspaper, radio or TV station and reports only on activist subjects, leading with his heart and ignoring the facts. Rokke attempted to crush me because some people on military oriented e-mail lists chose to listen to me since I have a little background in radiation and I am a colonel..and like Rokke's side-kick Leuren Moret, I also have a bachelor's degree in geology (some say that she has a doctorate, but actually she left the doctoral program and no longer is enrolled, so she can not even claim to be an "abd" "all but dissertation" .. just like I can only say that I have 39/42 of a Masters in Public Administration because I left the program nearly 30 years ago to take a lucrative job in Saudi Arabia and never wrote the final "practicum" paper which is not even a requirement for the degree any more.
